Fire Instructor III

Prerequisite    Fire Instructor II
A completed application and test fee is required two weeks before the test can be taken.  The candidate must be certified as an Fire Instructor II and have the knowledge  outlined in NFPA 1041, 2007 Edition, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications.

Standard          
NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, 2007 Edition.  The skills tested are designed to test the candidate on the knowledge and proficiencies as outlined in NFPA 1041 for Fire Instructor III.  All skills have been referenced to a specific standard in NFPA 1041.

Bibliography
The textbooks listed below were used in developing the skills test for the Fire Instructor III exam.  The candidate should have knowledge of the information contained in these books:

       2007 Edition.        
   2. IFSTA, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, 7th Edition, 1st Printing   
   3. IFSTA, Fire Department Company Officer, 4th Edition, 1st Printing

Test                
The skills test is made up of 6 skills selected at random from a skills test bank of 15 skills.  All skills must be achieved in order to achieve a passing score.  The Skills test will require the candidate to complete the skills required to prove proficiency in the areas outlined in NFPA 1041, 2007 Edition.

Re-certification

  • Every three years.
  • Requires 24 hours of Fire Instructor III training and activity for each of the three years.
  • Re-certification Cost:  $20.00
