Fire Instructor II

Prerequisite
The candidate shall be certified at Fire Instructor I level. A completed application is required before the test can be taken. The candidate must have the knowledge as outlined in NFPA 1041, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Instructor II.

Standard - NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor II
The questions and skills are designed to test the candidate on the knowledge and proficiencies as outlined in NFPA 1041 for Fire Instructor II. All questions have been referenced to a specific standard in NFPA 1041.

Reference List
The textbooks listed below were used in developing the test questions for the Fire Instructor II exam. The candidate should have knowledge of the information contained in these books:

  • IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, 7th Edition, First Printing
  • NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, 2002 Edition
  • IFSTA Fire Department Company Officer, 3rd Edition, 1st Printing

Test

  • The written test made up of 100 multiple-choice questions selected at random from a test bank of over 200 questions. A score of 70 percent (adjusted by standard measurement of error) correct answers must be achieved in order to achieve a passing score.
  • Test Cost: $80

Re-certification

  • Every three years.
  • Requires 24 hours of Fire Instructor II training for each of the three years.
  • Re-certification Cost: $20.
