Fire Inspector III

Prerequisite - Certified Fire Inspector II

  • A completed application and test fee is required two weeks before the test can be taken. A completed application and proof of prior certification as a Fire Inspector II is required before a candidate is eligible to take a Fire Inspector III exam.
  • The candidate must have the knowledge as outlined in NFPA 1031, 2009 Edition, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector. Standard – NFPA 1031, 2009 Edition, Fire Inspector.

      The skills tested are designed to test the candidate on the knowledge and proficiencies as outlined in NFPA 1031 2009 Edition for Fire Inspector. All skills have been referenced to a specific standard in NFPA 1031 (2009 Edition).

      The textbooks listed below were used in developing the skill stations for the Fire Inspector I exam. The candidate should have knowledge of the information contained in these books:

      • IFSTA, Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement, 7th Edition, First Printing
      • Delmar, Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code Enforcement, 3rd Edition, First Printing
      • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Professional Qualifications, 2009 Text

      Test

      • To qualify for Fire Inspector III, the candidate will submit a portfolio of completed skills for evaluation. The skills examination must be completed within 60 days of the application date and forwarded by the certification candidate to the address provided for scoring.
      • Test Cost: $175

      Re-certification

      • Every three years.
      • Requires 24 hours of Fire Inspector III training for each of the three years.
