Fire Inspector I
A completed application is required before the test can be taken. The candidate must have the knowledge as outlined in NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector I. No prior certification is required.
The questions and skills are designed to test the candidate on the knowledge and proficiencies as outlined in NFPA 1031 for Fire Inspector I. All questions have been referenced to a specific standard in NFPA 1031.
The textbooks listed below were used in developing the test questions for the Fire Inspector I exam. The candidate should have knowledge of the information contained in these books:
- IFSTA Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement - Fifth Edition
- IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting - Fourth Edition
- IFSTA Hazardous Materials for First Responders - Second Edition
- DOT Emergency Response Guidebook
On-site Practical stations are a part of this certification process. Candidates are required to use the current edition of the International Fire Code during the practical stations.
- The written test made up of 150 multiple-choice questions selected at random from a test bank of over 300 questions. A score of 70 percent (adjusted by standard measurement of error) correct answers must be achieved in order to achieve a passing score.
- Test Cost: $80
- Every three years.
- Requires 24 hours of Fire Inspector I training for each of the three years.
- Re-certification Cost: $20.
